Quizzing Rules

TIME:

  1. A quiz typically is composed of three seven-minute rounds (length may be adapted to accommodate the day's schedule).

  2. A timed, written bonus question will follow each round.

  3. A two minute recess will occur between rounds (while the score is tallied and announced).

  4. Any question in progress at the end of a round will be completed.

  5. Five seconds will be given to respond (by ringing bell) after a question is read.

  6. Five seconds will be given to give an answer after responding (at the discretion of the Quizmaster).

  7. Five seconds will be given to respond to a rebound question (and five seconds to answer).

SCORING:

  1. Ten points will be awarded for each correctly answered question.

  2. Five points will be subtracted for each incorrectly answered question.

  3. Five points will be awarded for each correctly answered rebound.

  4. Bonus points will be given as specified on the bonus sheets.

  5. No points will be subtracted for incorrect rebound answers.

  6. No points will be subtracted for incorrect bonus answers.

  7. No points will be subtracted from a team total of zero.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  1. Three to five players from each team quiz at one time.

  2. Alternate players may be substituted between rounds.

  3. A player may respond to a question at any time during its reading.

  4. Reading will stop when a response is made, and resume for the rebound (if necessary).

  5. Teammates MAY confer BEFORE responding (that is, BEFORE ringing the bell), but NOT AFTER.

  6. Rebounds WILL be given on closed questions (True/False, Yes/No, etc.)

  7. The first answer clearly stated will be the official answer (at the discretion of the Quizmaster).

  8. Standard questions will be oral; bonus questions will be written (but read aloud first).

  9. Audience interference (intentional or not) will cause penalties (discretion of the Quizmaster).
